Goal Order
1. Graduate Trent University - Compressed Nursing Program with honours.
2. Successfully write and pass NCLEX.
3. Start my practice as an RN in community health in efforts to promote recovery in a home/community setting. Get 1-2 years of experience.
4. Become a travel nurse and gain more experience.
5. Go back to school to get my Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (Masters).

6. Take the nurse practitioner certification exam.

SMART Goal #1
Specific: I want to become a nurse practitioner in efforts to provide the best care for those who require non-hospital settings for recovery. As an NP, I will be able to diagnose and treat acute illnesses and can prescribe medications.
Measurable: I must maintain a high GPA of 3.3 or higher. This is to allow me to qualify for a master's degree.
Attainable: I want to obtain all degrees, diplomas, and certificates so that employers are aware of my accomplishments and hire me so that I can start my new career.
Relevant: Goals are important so that they motivate me to achieve. My personal values incorporate the importance of social justice. I believe that to eliminate health care discrepancies, I must obtain more education. By understanding stigmas, I would be able to make a greater change in a higher career role.
Time-limited: After I graduate with my bachelor's degree (January 2021), I should complete the required amount of clinical hours and education by another six years. My goal should be reached by the year 2027.
SMART Goal #2
Specific: Be able to prioritize the prevention and management of disease; the promotion of health; health education; reduction of inequalities in health; high-quality healthcare; cost-effective and value-for-money services delivered within budget; and respectful, sensitive and equitable service specifically for minority ethnic groups.
Measurable: Through research and ethical studies, I want to incorporate a study that can determine what particular intervention is best tailored for patients who identify as a minority. The study would include a multitude of people with health problems or a lack of education and accessibility. Results would be measured through subjective experiences (patients stating their quality care) and objective responses (measuring natural body responses to improved conditions).
Attainable: Results would be obtained from the said study.
Relevant: My focus in my nursing career would be ensuring improved health care disparities among minority groups and advocating for those in minority groups. I will be able to incorporate my personal values to achieve my goals. By obtaining the best intervention for such patients, I can use these interventions for marginalized groups that experience compromised health care, living in impoverished areas that have a lack thereof medical treatment.
Time-limited: I plan to reach this goal prior to becoming a nurse practitioner (2026), solely for the purpose to enforce policies and treatments for minority groups when I do become a nurse practitioner.

Practice reflection & developing & maintaining a learning plan
My standards revolve around contributing to a safe, supportive quality practice environment. I aim to achieve this practice by being accountable and accepting responsibility for my actions, inactions, decisions and the evaluation of my own practice. I will also attain, maintain and demonstrate the appropriate competencies (knowledge, skills, and judgment) to practice safely and provide client-centered care. Another way I will practice patient safety and wellbeing is to recognize, intervene and report any near misses in efforts to rid of harmful incidents in my practice environments where the patient is potentially or actually at risk.
Another standard that I will practice is advocating for and contributing to the development and implementation of policies, programs, and practices relevant to the practice setting that will improve nursing practice and/or health care. I will aim to always coordinate, distribute and utilize resources within my control to provide effective and efficient care for all patients. This also includes communicating effectively and respectfully with patients in a timely manner to promote continuity and the delivery of safe, competent, sympathetic and ethical care.
